Christian Vande Velde is an American former professional cyclist. He is best known for his stage wins in the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia, as well as his participation in the Olympic Games and World Championships.
Vande Velde began his cycling career in 1998. He joined the US Postal Service team in 2000 and remained with the team until 2005. During his time with US Postal, he won stages in the Tour de France (2003) and Giro d’Italia (2005). He also finished second overall in the Tour of California in 2005.
In 2006, Vande Velde joined the CSC team. He won a stage in the Tour de France in 2008 and finished third overall in the Tour of California in 2009. He also competed in the Olympic Games in 2004 and 2008.
Vande Velde retired from professional cycling in 2013. He is now a commentator for NBC Sports.
